If you are a Samsung customer based in the U.S., you might accidentally become a victim of the hacking incident. The new South Korean electronic department is sending an email to thousands of US customers who tell them about the possibility of security violations involving their servers. In a statement that was emailed – a copy that also appeared on the company’s support website – Samsung confirmed that consumer personal information might have been compromised during the hacking that should have occurred near the end of July 2022.
While the cyber security expert team continues to investigate the incident, Samsung has told law enforcement agencies regarding this development. Korean companies know about security violations during routine investigations. After expanding the scope of the investigation, it becomes clear that personal information belonging to some of its customers is “influenced” in violations. After a fast initial evaluation, Samsung acted and took quick steps to ensure the safety of all affected systems.
With some Samsung users who confirmed the reception of emails, it seems that Samsung chose to send an email about the incident only to consumers who were known to be influenced by security violations. For the same reason, you can take a sigh of relief if you become a Samsung USA customer and have not received an email from those who tell you about this development.
What kind of data was breached?
In the FAQ page, Samsung quickly clarified that hackers could not suck up data related to social security numbers, credit /debit card details, and other sensitive data stored on Samsung servers. However, this section talks about the possibility of hackers to get access to other important information. This ranges from names, contact numbers, and date of information related to birth-details of the registration of products-all of which are stored on the affected Samsung server.
Through the FAQ section, Samsung also wants to make it quite clear for the U.S. consumers. That the incident of data violations has no connection with the overall safety of Samsung’s smartphone. This device continues to remain safe as usual, Samsung’s claim. Nevertheless, for the sake of consumer safety, Samsung has asked its users to take all the preventive measures needed before leaking personal information about dubious web pages.
Samsung also asked users to always be careful to click on links or download attachments that they did not know. The company also confirms that it will take all possible steps to avoid such incidents in the future. Although it still needs to be seen how successful Samsung, considering the company said something on the same line followed a similar incident a few months ago.
