A eruption on the Spanish Canary Island of los angeles Palma sent lava spewing down residential streets, forcing residents to escape their homes.

The Cumbre Vieja volcano erupted at 15:00 civil time on Sunday, sending lava flowing down the hillside toward nearby villages,

The eruption, the primary in Spain since 1971, has not claimed any lives, but thousands of individuals are forced to go away their homes.

In the footage that’s going viral, the expansive pile of molten lava might be seen piling towards firefighters in one village. It completely engulfs homes and sets fire to almost everything in its path.

After nightfall, footage showed fountains of lava shooting many metres into the sky, and a minimum of three incandescent orange rivers of molten rock pouring down Capitol Hill , tearing gashes into woods and farmland, and spreading as they reached lower ground.

Mariano Hernández, the president of los angeles Palma’s council, said that the lava “is literally eating up the homes , infrastructure and crops that it’s finding on its path toward the coast within the valley of Aridane.”

Hernández also asked people to stay faraway from the affected areas because spectators were hampering the evacuation effort.

“People shouldn’t come near the eruption site where the lava is flowing,” he said. “We’re having serious problems with the evacuation because the roads are jammed with people that try to urge close enough to ascertain it.”
