A shocking explosion of visitors at the Hoover Dam, one of the largest hydroelectric facilities in Nevada, United States, on Tuesday. Records of the event showing thick black smoke and fire clouds were posted online by one of the tourists present at the location when the explosion occurred. Boulder City, where the dam is located, tweeted that the fire department received an emergency call and rushed the team to check the incident at the dam.
In the video posted on Reddit, a witness can be heard, “Geez, something has just exploded.” The same video was posted on Twitter also by Kristy Hathston users who said he “toured the Hoover dam” when he “heard an explosion”.
Boulder City then tweeted that the fire was extinguished before the fire department arrived at the scene.
In a statement, Lower Colorado Regional Director in the Jacklynn Gould Reclamation Bureau said the fire was reported in one of the transformers installed in the dam.
“There is no risk to the electricity network,” added MS Gould.
No one was injured in the explosion, which was reported near the base of the dam. Officials work to determine the level of damage to the transformer, one of 15 installed in the complex, reporting ABC News.
The Hoover Dam has been built in the Colorado River, on the border between Nevada and Arizona. It was built between 1931 and 1936 during great depression and dedicated to the nation by President Franklin D Roosevelt in 1935.
