Taipei accused China on Wednesday to pressure the organizer of the Malaysian trade event to prohibit a beauty queen of Taiwan who raised the island flag on the stage.
Miss Taiwan Kao Man-jung was photographed when other contestants in the beauty contest appeared on the stage during the opening ceremony on Tuesday from 2022 World Congress on Innovation and Technology (WCIT), according to Taiwan’s authority.

“China pressured the organizer of Malaysia to ban Miss Kao from holding our national flag on the stage,” said the Taiwan Foreign Ministry, added that they had instructed their representative offices in Malaysia to submit official complaints to the organizers.

Beijing considers the Democratic island that is governed by itself as part of its territory to be confiscated one day, forcibly if needed. This is full of international recognition of Taiwan and often reacts with anger over the appearance of his flag at international events or by foreign celebrities.

The Taiwan Foreign Ministry said that such oppression “would only make Taiwanese more disgusted and the international community” and accused Beijing of mushing “heinous acts”.

Media Taiwan reported that Kao was stopped right when he was going to go on stage, while other contestants were seen flying their country’s flags.

Celebrities including Pop Stars as Madonna and Katy Perry have triggered anger in China in the past because it shows the Taiwan flag, which was seen by Beijing as a support show for the independence of the island.
