The image showing the North Korean currency records appeared in Reddit. The man who posted the picture claimed that it was smuggled abroad with socks. Currency records (Bill 5,000 Won) featured a former North Korean leader who smiled Kim Il Sung, the founder of the country and the current ruler’s grandfather Kim Jong-un. The photo has collected more than 74,000 upvotes in the forum where it was posted five days ago. This picture also causes a long conversation between Reddit users.
That person, named John from New Zealand, posted an image under the username of hos_in_chi_minh. “I exchanged this with a local bus driver and hid it on my socks on the way out,” the user wrote the post, adding that he visited the country a few years ago.
Other users are interested in the photo and want to know what the man was trading. “I trade 10 notes with the same value that we exchange for use in tourist shops. Other notes do not have to face leaders on it and he is happy to 10x his money for trade,” John in response.
A user said he also visited North Korea and asked John if he saw a “very deep” subway underground and was there a child singing there. “Not children but yes on the deep subway. It was built as a nuclear shelter and transportation center. We went to school for talented children and many of their performances clearly -warned only for tourists,” he answered.
However, others worry about John. “You risk everything for souvenirs,” commented Reddit User D0ctorWH010. “There is no clue why there are people who risk their lives only visit these countries especially things like this,” added another user, Yasai101.
