The PMAY is a Central Government-led initiative that was introduced in July 2015. It aims to ensure affordable housing among rural and urban citizens of the country. Ever since its launch, the noble scheme has enabled individuals to secure their dream of owning a home. The successful implementation is notable, and the authorities have made immense development through the period since its inception.
As per the latest developments, the government has approved the construction of a total of 1.68 lakh housing units in urban areas as part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. This brings the total number of sanctioned homes to up to 1.1 crore. This major decision was taken by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry during the 52nd meeting held with the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC). The meeting was held in the presence of officials from 14 states and union territories.
The housing units are slated to be constructed across the verticals of beneficiary-led construction, affordable housing in partnership and in-situ slum development under the
PMAY-Urban scheme.
As per the statement of the ministry, several states have requested a revision in projects due to various subjective issues. These include issues with the land, topographical hazards, change in preference of vertical, inter-city migration and more.
