At least 21 further cases of Covid-19 were reported in the harborage megacity of Tianjin, some 130 km and a 40- nanosecond high- speed train ride down from Beijing, for Sunday, the public health commission (NHC) said on Monday, taking the total number to 40.
At least two Omicron cases were verified on Sunday (for Saturday), health authorities said. It was n’t clear if there were further cases of the largely transmittable Omicron variant among the 41 officially verified cases.
Worryingly for the government, the Tianjin outbreak has been linked to two Omicron cases reported on Monday in the megacity of Anyang around 400 km down in Henan fiefdom.
Coming weeks ahead of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, the new outbreak will further test China’s “ dynamic Covid” policy, which means stamping out the lowest number of cases with mass testing and lockdowns.
Publicizing a partial lockdown in Tianjin, megacity authorities have said the general public shouldn’t leave Tianjin unless it’s essential to do so as health officers carry out nucleic acid tests on nearly 14 million residers of the megacity.
Tianjin’s mass testing scheme, which is anticipated to be completed by the end of Monday, is part of its trouble to “ intensively help the contagion spreading to other businesses, regions and metropolises, especially Beijing”, the megacity government said in a letter to residers.
Those who need to leave must gain sanctioned authorization and test negative for the contagion within 48 hours of their departure, the original government added.
Seminaries and university premises have been closed, and Beijing-bound trains from Tianjin have been cancelled; road checkpoints have been set up to check vehicles before being allowed to enter the capital.
“ Tianjin’s experience with controlling and treating the Omicron variant will give inestimable experience for other regions to fight the epidemic,” Zhang Boli, from the Chinese Academy of Engineering was quoted as saying by state media on Monday.
Zhang added that the Tianjin outbreak showed that the proportion of youthful among the infected group, especially primary and secondary academy scholars, was fairly high, and authorities should be watchful about it.
On Monday, Tianjin launched an exigency response medium to guarantee the force of diurnal musts.
According to the Tianjin external office of commerce, original authorities have mobilised major noncommercial suppliers, supermarkets and vegetable requests to add force in order to manage with the request demand for meat, eggs and vegetables.

The total number of verified Covid-19 cases on the landmass had reached by Sunday with the death risk at 4636.
China has so far administered over2.9 billion boluses of Covid-19 vaccines until Sunday.
